Understanding Hot Tire Transfer and Plasticizer Migration
Tires heat up with every drive, and that heat softens the plasticizers used to keep rubber flexible. Once parked, those plasticizers can migrate directly into the coating beneath the tire. This is plasticizer migration, and it’s the leading cause of permanent tire staining on garage floors.
A properly engineered polyaspartic floor coating is designed to resist this process. A poorly built one simply absorbs it.
Why Some Garage Floor Coatings Stain and Others Don’t
Many 1-day systems use a thin, rapid-cure topcoat that’s often only poorly cross-linked and 85%-solids or less. That thinner film has far less capacity to resist sustained heat, which is why hot tire lift and plasticizer migration are so commonly excluded from those warranties.
