In Northeast Ohio, your garage flooring takes a beating: snow, slush, salt, and wide temperature swings. The question is: how long will a garage floor coating last in a place like Akron or Cleveland?
If itโs professionally installed the right way, the answer is decades. If itโs rushed in a single day? Expect problems within just a few years.
Why 2-Day Garage Flooring Can Last 30+ Years
At Forte Garage Floor Coating, we follow the proven 2-day coating process used by GarageFloorCoating.com nationwide. It’s a multi-layered system built for strength, longevity, and peace of mind:
Day One:
We mechanically grind the concrete with commercial diamond grinders to create a porous surface for the first (primer) coat. Then we apply a 100%-solids moisture-mitigating epoxy primer direct-to-concrete. It slowly and deeply penetrates the concrete slab and, once cured, acts as a moisture vapor barrier. While it’s still wet, we broadcast your selected flake blend in a full-flake spread into the primer coat for color, texture, and coverage.
While others rush, we allow this base coat to slowly penetrate and cure overnight.
Day Two:
We return to apply two separate layers of 100%-solids polyaspartic topcoat, the secret to long-term protection. These coatings provide superior UV stability, chemical resistance, and durability against hot tire pickup, abrasions, and winter road salts.
The result is garage flooring that doesnโt just look beautiful, but can last 30 years or more with proper maintenance. Thatโs why we offer a lifetime warranty against peeling, even from moisture-related issues.
What Can Go Wrong with 1-Day Systems?
Companies offering 1-day installs often cut corners. They apply a wafer-thin, quick-curing polyurea or polyaspartic as their direct-to-concrete primer coat. It cures so quickly (especially in the presence of moisture or high humidity), that it fails to deeply penetrate the concrete slab.
- No moisture-mitigating primer
- Single thin coat of clear (less-than-100%-solids) polyaspartic topcoat
- Sleight -of-hand warranty that doesn’t cover “moisture-related issues” (the number one reason for coating failures)
The lack of vapor barrier and single top coat increases the probability of hot-tire staining, delamination, and coating failure, especially in Ohioโs cold wet winters and humid wet summers.
